Use Us From Home

girl sitting at a PC Did you know? You can use Andrew Carnegie Free Library from any place - your home, London, or Miami - that has access to the Internet. In addition, we are open 24 hours a day on the Internet. Look for a book at the best time and place for you. When you find an interesting book, you can reserve it for pickup at Andrew Carnegie Free Library even if it is located in Pittsburgh or Forest Hills or Monroeville.

Before you start:

1. You will be able to find us from home at this easily remembered web address: www.CarnegieCarnegie.com.

2. You will find that it is much easier to use Andrew Carnegie Free Library from home if your email address is correct. Please do that now. Click on this link to access your account. The logon screen will appear in a new window. Log onto your library account with your name and library card number. Next check your address and telephone number. If they are incorrect, you must call the library at 412-276-3456 to correct them. Next click on Modify Personal Information and correct your email address if it is wrong. When you are done, log off and close the window. You will be able to see this screen again.

To reserve a book:

1. Use the Card Catalog to find a book of interest. Searching by Key Word, Author, or Title is usually the easiest. The Subject search uses the Library of Congress subject headings, which can result in poor searches if you don't know the words they are using. Click here to open a new window to search the Card Catalog. When you have found a book that you want to get, come back to this window to see the next step in the process.

2. The Catalog Search Results screens have Request This Item at the top of the screen, at the bottom of the screen or to the right of the item. Click on this link. Enter your name and library card number on the new screen. Then click on Choose a Pickup Location and select Andrew Carnegie Free Library from the alphabetical list. Then select a request cancellation date. This will tell the library to cancel this book request, if it can not be filled by that date. It's usually a good idea to allow a couple months in case there is a long list of requests for this book. Press the submit button to confirm the order. The computer will confirm a successful reservation for the book. You will receive an email or phone call when the book is ready to be picked up.

3. You can close the window.

To cancel a reservation:
